How to choose a permanent makeup artist in Riga — what to actually look at

Pricing, portfolio, certifications — what genuinely matters and what's just marketing. An honest look from an artist's perspective.

There are many permanent makeup artists in Riga. Some charge very little, some charge a lot. How do you know who's good? Here's what to actually look at — and what not to.

Portfolio — how to read it properly

Any artist can photograph a fresh result — work done immediately after a procedure almost always looks good. What you should actually look for:

Healed results — photos taken 4–6 weeks after the procedure and after touch-up. That's what shows the real work.

Different skin types — brows on dry skin, oily skin, lighter clients, darker clients. A skilled artist works across different people.

Symmetry — both brows should look consistent. A small asymmetry is normal (faces have that naturally), but significant — no.

Certifications — what to ask for

- Cosmetologist's certificate or dermatocosmetics qualification

- PMU technique diploma from a recognised school

- You can ask about a first aid certificate — it shows the person takes the profession seriously

Hygiene — perfectly fine to ask

- Are needles single-use? (Must be "yes")

- Which pigments are used? (Europigment, Perma Blend, Doreme are trusted brands)

- Is there a sterilisation protocol for instruments?

If the artist answers irritably or vaguely — that says a lot.

About pricing

Cheap doesn't automatically mean bad. Expensive doesn't automatically mean good. But a very low price often means inexperience, cheaper materials, or hygiene concerns.

Realistic pricing for an experienced artist in Riga: €140–200 for the first procedure. Touch-up included or separate — that's one of the first things to ask.

Consultation before the procedure

A good artist never says "come today and we'll do it straight away." Before the procedure there needs to be a consultation — to check contraindications, choose the technique and shape. This isn't extra time — it's the beginning of the procedure.
